THE TROOP MEETING: PART SEVEN – CLOSING
“Step seven is the closing. This portion of the
meeting belongs to the Scoutmaster.”
The closing portion off the meeting does not only belong to the Scoutmaster. The Scoutmaster or other leader takes this time to deliver a leader’s minute, but regularly there are also announcements, and a final closing ceremony which can be conducted by a troop leader, the SPL, or whomever is assigned.
What follows is some relevant text from troopleader.scouting.org and a photo of an SPL making some announcements:
“Step seven is the closing. At the end of the meeting, before Scouts depart, the troop should always and properly close things out. A well-presented closing period wraps everything up in a predictable fashion, and when done in a meaningful manner puts a comfortable cap on what’s preceded. A closing ceremony is well-suited to take place after some brief, well-paced and pertinent announcements, followed by a Scoutmaster’s Minute.”
