THE TROOP MEETING: PART TWO – OPENING CEREMONY
“Variations may include other meaningful activities such as singing a patriotic song, presenting an historic American flag and explaining its history…”
- Though valid, the variations described in the current text are seldom featured during troop meeting openings. (You see the historic flag ceremonies during Woodbadge and at Philmont.) Singing together during a troop meeting is something for the very rare group of Scouts—something they would more readily do at summer camp or around a campfire.
- The current photo appears to be an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony.
The following text and photo are more appropriate and congruous with opening ceremonies during a troop meeting:
“Variations may include presenting the three parts of the Scout Oath, presentations of the Outdoor Code, specific points of the Scout Law, and a variety of approaches to formally posting the colors.”
