THE TROOP MEETING: OBJECTIVES
“There should be a period set aside to learn
new things that are useful and relevant,
and opportunities to put skills into action in ways that are challenging and fun. In addition to
strengthening patrols and promoting patrol spirit, it’s the weekly troop meeting that leads to those exciting patrol activities in the outdoors for Scouts. The troop meeting gives Scouts an opportunity to exercise
their leadership skills. Leadership development is one of the methods Scouting employs to achieve its aims, and in the most successful troops, it’s the Scouts themselves
that run the show. In this manner, Scouts actually take ownership, of their troop. Throughout the process, the role of the Scoutmaster is to offer advice and guide the Scouts”
