INCREASING RETENTION

Implementing the following collection of action points will help increase the rate of retention, especially in Scouts BSA units.

ACTION POINT I

 Institute a colorful, online training program, and a weekend training session, designed to improve meeting attendance and the rate of retention. The focus of these trainings is on how to plan, prepare, and present meetings and outings that are increasingly fun with positive outcomes. The training can initially be promoted through “Scouting Wire,” “Aaron on Scouting,” territory training leads, and commissioner service. The online course can be instituted in conjunction with other basic Scout leader trainings through Scouting U. Both include the following prominent content (CLICK ON EACH LINK):

A. Introduction

B. Using the Troop Meeting Planning Form as a Point of Reference for Planning the Weekly Troop Meeting

C. Aiming at Approaching Each Segment of the Troop Meeting’s Agenda From an Entertainment Perspective

D. Utilizing an Activity-Based Sequential Approach to Program Planning

E. Taking Any and All Required Steps to Creatively Incorporate Additional Sources of Fun During Troop Activities and Events (Comprehensive Programming)

ACTION POINT II

Continually share with members of Scouting America the kinds of fun-filled, Scout skill challenges, team building opportunities, patrol competitions, and troop-wide games that benefit Scouts and their units.
