Fun Meetings with Positive Outcomes

INTRODUCTION: It’s been said that the weekly troop meeting is the glue that holds a Scout troop together. From beginning to end, there should always be something happening creating a focus, capturing and maintaining the Scouts’ attention, and providing the grounds for rewarding experiences. There should be a period set aside to learn new things that are useful and relevant, moments that are amusing and entertaining, and opportunities to put skills into action in ways that are challenging and fun. Troop members should leave the meeting feeling invigorated, feeling good about Scouting, and feeling good about themselves.

TRAINING SESSION PURPOSE: This training session provides troop leaders with useful resources that will help streamline the troop meeting planning process—a process ultimately undertaken by the Patrol Leaders’ Council. Utilizing these resources will help ensure Scout leaders have fun meetings with positive outcomes.

A WORD TO THE WISE: Planning and Preparation! These materials provide valuable assets for troop leaders, both youth and adult. But, merely listing them in online, resource libraries and printed PDF files won’t contribute to a troop meeting that keeps Scouts engaged and having a great time. Unless they are conscientiously put to use, they have zero value. Combine them with some well-motivated dedication and a bit of creativity, and you have the recipe for a dynamic troop with an awesome Scouting program!
