THE TROOP MEETING: PART TWO – OPENING CEREMONY

“Variations may include other meaningful activities such as singing a patriotic song, presenting an historic American flag and explaining its history…”

  1. Though valid, the variations described in the current text are seldom featured during troop meeting openings. (You see the historic flag ceremonies during Woodbadge and at Philmont.) Singing together during a troop meeting is something for the very rare group of Scouts—something they would more readily do at summer camp or around a campfire.
  2. The current photo appears to be an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony.

The following text and photo are more appropriate and congruous with opening ceremonies during a troop meeting:

“Variations may include presenting the three parts of the Scout Oath, presentations of the Outdoor Code, specific points of the Scout Law, and a variety of approaches to formally posting the colors.”
